Promoting Gas-Based Economy

Gas based economy is contingent with creating necessary Gas infrastructure viz. LNG terminals, Nationwide Gas Grid and City Gas Distribution networks to increase the availability and accessibility of natural gas to public at large. Further, Gas Trading Exchange has been set up for localized price discovery. Also, “Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT)” scheme was launched on 1st October 2018 wherein Oil and Gas Marketing Companies (OGMCs) are inviting Expression of Interest (EoI) from potential entrepreneur to procure Compressed Bio Gas (CBG).

To enhance the availability of natural gas across the country especially in the Eastern & North-Eastern part of the country are to be connected through Jagdishpur-Haldia/Boakro-Dhamra Pipeline project. Government is providing Capital Grant of Rs. 5,176 Croreas Viability Gap Funding (VGF) to GAIL for the development of this pipeline project. Further, to extend the gas grid to each States of North-East and Sikkim, a Joint Venture (JV) company, namely Indradhanush Gas Grid Ltd (IGGL) has been formed. Government is also providing VGF as Capital Grant (Rs.5559 crore) to IGGL.

This information was given by the Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Dharmendra Pradhan in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
