[Watch] Solve for Tomorrow Season 2: Team NIT Surat Recollects Their Journey, Learnings, and Gameplan for the Finale

Rising pollution at beaches not only impacts the adjoining marine ecosystem but also creates a public health hazard, restricting the growth of nearby communities. Team NIT Surat, one of the top 10 finalists of the Solve for Tomorrow season 2, is determined to improve this picture with its innovative idea.

Aditi Tapariya, Harshil Mistry, and Vaibhav Gupta from Surat, Gujrat, have garnered much appreciation and praise for their automated beach cleaning robot in the competition. With the grand finale on its way, we took the opportunity to speak to them about their journey, learnings, and strategy ahead.

Learnings at the IIT Delhi Bootcamp

Team NIT Surat’s first significant step towards transforming into next-generation innovators started with comprehensive workshops on Design Thinking and Entrepreneurship at the IIT Delhi Bootcamp. Reflecting upon the impact of these learnings on their idea, the trio says, “The bootcamp taught us how to build a product, and that just having a tech-oriented solution is not important, we need to think about it in a market space as well.”

Implementing Learnings: Achieving Precision

Through the bootcamp, the team realized the potential changes they needed to make their innovation more precise. Sharing light on this development, the trio responded, “We enhanced our design in a customer-oriented manner. So, we made the required changes in our mechanism and in the backend algorithms while making it more precise in its operations.”

Strategy for the Grand Finale

As of now, the trio is busy developing their project from the ground up and preparing their pitch for the grand finale. We asked them to share their strategy to make it to the top 3, “We will work on our solution and do ground-level testing and analyze those results. We will sweep all the garbage on the beaches to build a more beautiful world for the generations to come. Together for tomorrow, we will make it happen.”
