(The Center Square) – The U.S. Supreme Court sided with former President Donald Trump in a decision Monday that allows Trump to seek a second presidential term.

The Supreme Court unanimously ruled Colorado cannot disqualify Trump from the ballot under the 14th Amendment’s insurrection ban. That ban applies to those who have “engaged in insurrection or rebellion.” The Supreme Court said Colorado can ban state candidates who have violated the insurrection ban, but not national candidates.

“This case raises the question whether the States, in addition to Congress, may also enforce Section 3. We conclude that States may disqualify persons holding or attempting to hold state office. But States have no power under the Constitution to enforce Section 3 with respect to federal offices, especially the Presidency.”
