 Manipal, 4th March 2024: The much-anticipated International Conference on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology commenced with a prestigious inaugural ceremony on February 29, 2024. Hosted by the Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, the event witnessed a significant convergence of leading researchers, scholars, and industry experts to explore recent breakthroughs and practical implementations in the realm of nanotechnology. The inauguration ceremony set the tone for the event, with distinguished Chief Guest Lt.Gen.(Dr.) M.D. Venkatesh, VSM (Retd), Vice Chancellor, MAHE, Manipal, and Dr. Shantikumar Nair, Dean and Head of Research at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kochi, Kerala, as the Guest of Honour. Dr. Sharat K. Rao, Pro Vice Chancellor (Health Science) MAHE, Manipal and Dr. Narayana Sabhahit, Pro Vice Chancellor (Technology & Science) MAHE, Manipal, also added their esteemed presence alongside Program Convener Dr. Sathish Rao, Director-Research MAHE, and Co-Convenors Dr. Bharti Magazine, Deputy Director-Research (Health Sciences), MAHE and Dr. Santhosh K.V. Deputy Director-Research (Technical Sciences), MAHE.

During the conference, seven eminent speakers, all pioneers in the field of nanotechnology, delivered plenary talks and shared their expertise with the delegates. The highlights of day one included the keynote speeches by Dr Weihua Li, Dr Shantikumar Nair, Dr Navakant Bhat and Dr C V Yelamagad. This was followed by oral and poster presentations. A captivating Yakshagana performance, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region and providing a refreshing interlude amidst scientific discourse was a good entertainment after research extravaganza. The day concluded with a banquet, offering participants an opportunity to network and socialize in a relaxed atmosphere, further enhancing the interdisciplinary interactions initiated during the conference sessions.

Speaking on Novo Nordisk Global Business Services (GBS) participation, John Dawber, Corporate Vice President & Managing Director – Novo Nordisk GBS shared, “It is our privilege to have such a strong partnership with MAHE and our collaboration has been extremely rewarding. It was fascinating to participate in the conference which allowed us to delve into dialogue, practical application, and exhibition. Advances in technology and science are seeing far-reaching transformations in health and medicine with breakthrough diagnoses including precision medicine and medical cures. Events such as these help in presenting fresh perspectives and encourage curiosity among academia and corporate”.

Day two sessions were initiated with keynote speeches by Dr. Amitava Mukherjee, Dr. Sergii Rudiuk and Dr. R. S. Jayasree. These sessions provided profound insights into the transformative potential of nanotechnology in revolutionizing medical diagnostics, promising significant advancements in early disease detection and enhancing patient care. Following these attendees engaged in poster sessions and oral presentations, providing a platform for scholars to share their research findings and foster discussions on the forefront of nanoscience and nanotechnology.

The conference received a remarkable array of submissions reflecting the diverse interests and expertise of the participants. The abstracts covered a wide range of topics from theoretical explorations to practical applications in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Twenty-two full-length papers were received, which will be published with Springer as a proceedings book volume after peer review. Additionally, over 140 poster presentations were showcased by young budding nanoscientists, and 15 oral presentations were delivered by faculty members of various institutions.

The valedictory session of this Nanotechnology and Nanoscience Conference was highlighted by award distribution ceremony by chief guest Dr P. Giridhar Kini, Registrar of MAHE who presented one award for  Best Oral Presentation, while Eight awards for the Posters in different fields.

Overall this international conference has provided an opportunity to reflect on the insightful discussions, and innovative ideas shared throughout the conference in the field of nanotechnology.
