Illinois quick hits: Police warn of robbery gang; Naperville named best city

Police warn of robbery gang

The Chicago Police Department has issued a community alert regarding a series of street robberies believed to have been committed by the same crew.

There were more than a dozen robberies committed on March 16. The gang, dressed in all black and wearing ski masks, hop out of a car and rob people on the street using rifles and handguns.

Treasurer supports rolling funds over

Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs is leading an effort to help families place leftover college savings funds into retirement plans. The change is the result of action by the federal government.

Frerichs told reporters Tuesday that he is hoping to assist families who don’t use all of the money in their college savings accounts to roll over funds into a Roth IRA.

Congress approved a bill in 2022 that allows tax and penalty-free rollovers from college savings plans to retirement plans.

Naperville named best city

A new report has named Naperville as the best city to live in anywhere in the country.

The website Niche gave Naperville an A+ in the report, which cited its exceptional housing market, public schools, employment opportunities and recreational activities.

The Woodlands, Texas, came in second place, followed by Cambridge, Massachusetts.
