Crawford Boots the right fit for South32’s Appin Colliery

SYDNEY: Crawford Boots, a leading industrial safety boots manufacturer, and South32 (ASX:S32), a globally diversified mining and metals company, announced a partnership that will see Crawford Boots become the exclusive footwear supplier to South32’s Appin Colliery. This joint development will provide miners at the Appin Colliery with Crawford Boots’ high-quality, waterproof, industrial safety boots.

A former podiatrist that has worked with miners’ feet for over 20 years, Penny Crawford has seen her fair share of injuries sustained from ill-fitted work boots being used in tough, uneven conditions.

“Workers in the Appin Colliery are dealing with muddy, rugged surfaces on a daily basis, so it is crucial for them to be wearing high-quality boots that properly fit their feet.

“Being able to share information with the miners here is really important, and it’s fantastic to know that Crawford Boots will contribute to the health, safety, and longevity of their feet, which has a flow-on effect reducing the risk of knee and back pain.”

The Appin Colliery, part of Illawarra Metallurgical Coal, is based about 75 kilometres south of Sydney and is steeped in coal mining history dating back more than 150 years.

“We want to fit out our employees with the best equipment possible, so this partnership is really exciting for us,” said Lachlan Payne, Safety Specialist at Appin Colliery.

“It was really impressive to see Penny visiting the site to personally fit miners with the right boots for them and offer her expertise. This is the type of passion that we love to see from our suppliers.”

Since being founded in 2013, Crawford Boots has become a supplier of over 40 underground mines across Australia.
