400 MW of power to be supplied to the state by Adani’s Godda plant

Spread across 558 acres of land, Adani Power Jharkhand Limited’s (APJL) ultra-supercritical thermal power plant in Godda district is poised to deliver additional electricity to the power-deficient state in the near future. Last July, the 2x800MW power plant commenced commercial operation after undergoing mandatory reliability tests in the preceding months.

The commencement ensures the promised uninterrupted supply to Bangladesh through dedicated transmission grids covering approximately 100km from Godda to various parts of Santhal Pargana en route to Bangladesh. In addition to fulfilling its international commitment, the power major is gearing up to meet the state’s requirements.

Bridging Energy Gaps and Fostering Regional Collaboration

Ramesh Jha, the station head of Adani’s power plant in Adani Godda project, stated, “When we entered into the agreement with the state government, we committed to providing 25% of the power to Jharkhand. In practical terms, this translates to about 400MW of power. We have informed the state government and are awaiting their response.” He further explained that since this plant is not connected to the domestic grid, they will fulfil their commitment using the Raipur plant’s grid, a communication already relayed to the state government.

Prasun Chakraborty, the operations and maintenance head of the Godda plant, emphasised the project’s national significance, highlighting its role in strengthening energy security between India and Bangladesh. “Supplying power from the Adani Godda plant to Bangladesh’s grid aims to bolster energy security in Bangladesh,” he remarked.

In 2017, APJL inked an agreement with the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) to supply 1,496 MW net capacity power from Godda for 25 years through a 400kV dedicated transmission line connected to the Bangladesh grid.

Operational Readiness and Contribution to State’s Energy Grid

Following meticulous configuration and testing, Adani’s power plant in Godda has started functioning to its full capacity, with the ability to add 400MW of electric power to the state’s energy grid. It is anticipated that this new huge capacity of the power plant will be a solution to the so-called electricity shortage, grid instability, and high demand for energy wherever needed, such as at commercial, industrial, and residential levels.

It is a reflection of Adani Power Ltd.’s operational best practices and sticking to the set project time frame that has resulted in the timely commissioning of the Godda plant. The project has been executed effectively using the company’s technical knowledge and management skills. This project represents a key step in the state’s economic path, which is dedicated to growth and development.

Impact on State’s Economy and Development

Access to dependable and affordable energy is the need of the hour, which is being fulfilled by this project. This stimulates investment and creates employment opportunities. This will make economic prosperity and a better life for society possible.

Moreover, the Adani Godda power plant aligns with the state government’s aim of promoting industrialisation and generating investments in core sectors, which comprise manufacturing, agriculture, and services. The accessibility of a reliable and continuous power supply will advance the state’s competitiveness, attracting both domestic and foreign investors to set up their businesses and consequently create jobs and wealth.

Environmental Considerations and Sustainability

While the Godda power plant may be a crucial step for the state’s energy security enhancement, it is nonetheless essential to solve environmental problems and make the whole process sustainable. Adani Group consists of a group of companies with notable investments in environmental protection, risk mitigation, and sustainability.

Moreover, Adani is involved with green energy, clean energy. This is done via adoption of practices such as reduced carbon emissions, afforestation etc. The power plant at Godda is leading to a more sustainable source of energy. It also ensures that the state’s need for energy is met accordingly.

Conclusion

Adani’s Godda-based power plant clearly indicates the businessman’s intention to enhance the standard of living in the area. Apart from the excellent operational management of the Adani Godda power plant, which has a power generation capacity of 400MW,  it also leads the state towards energy sufficiency and economic growth.

For the Adani Godda power plant to start energising homes, factories and many businesses around the state to continue with economic activities, it will have broad impacts, driving economic growth, creating numerous job opportunities and improving the quality of life for many people. It is a step towards walking into the future with innovation in mind.
