Vice President greets people on the occasion of Onam
The Vice President, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu greeted the people on the occasion of Onam. Following is the text of the message –
“I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to the people of our country on the auspicious occasion of Onam.
Onam marks the beginning of the harvest season in various parts of our country and is an occasion to celebrate the vitality and abundance of nature. As an ancient festival of Kerala, Onam honours the memory of legendary king Mahabali. The colorful festival of flowers is an occasion for family and friends to get together and indulge in traditional games, music and dancing and partake in a grand feast, the ‘Onasadya’.
I urge my fellow citizens to celebrate the festival by adhering to COVID health and hygiene protocols. May the festival usher in peace, prosperity and happiness in our country.”
Following is the Hindi text of the message:
“मैं ओणम के पावन अवसर पर अपने सभी देशवासियों को हार्दिक बधाई और शुभकामनाएं देता हूं।
ओणम, हमारे देश के विभिन्न भागों में फसल-कटाई के मौसम की शुरूआत का प्रतीक है और यह प्रकृति की प्राणशक्ति तथा प्रचुरता के मनाने का अवसर है। केरल के प्राचीन त्यौहार के रूप में ओणम, पौराणिक राजा महाबली की स्मृति के सम्मान में मनाया जाता है। फूलों का यह रंगारंग त्यौहार परिवार और मित्रों के लिए एक साथ मिलकर परम्परागत खेलों, संगीत और नृत्य का आनंद उठाने और शानदार प्रीतिभोज ‘ओनासद्या’ का लुत्फ उठाने का अवसर है।
मैं अपने नागरिकों से कोविड स्वास्थ्य और स्वच्छता नयाचारों की अनुपालना करते हुए त्यौहार मनाने का आग्रह करता हूं। मैं कामना करता हूं कि यह त्यौहार हमारे देश में शांति, समृद्धि और खुशी लेकर आए।“
