Bangalore, 23rd November 2024: Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) hosted the Namma Kannada Habba 2024, a grand celebration themed “Diversity,” showcasing Karnataka’s vibrant culture, traditions, and heritage. This year’s theme underscored the company’s remarkable progress in promoting gender diversity, with the proportion of women employees increasing from 2% to 10% over the past year. A notable highlight was the announcement of TKM’s exclusive all-women team set to participate in the Global Toyota Ekiden Marathon 2024, reflecting the company’s commitment to fostering equitable opportunities and empowering women in the workplace.

Further reinforcing its dedication to inclusivity, Mr. Masakazu Yoshimura, Managing Director & CEO of TKM, and Regional CEO for India, Middle East, East Asia, and Oceania for Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan, announced plans to gradually integrate specially-abled individuals into the workforce. This initiative aligns with TKM’s broader vision to build a workplace where diversity and inclusivity drive innovation and growth, making it a truly progressive and community-focused organization.

The event was honoured by the presence of distinguished Chief Guest—Mr. Sriimurali, a renowned Kannada actor celebrated for his impactful contributions to the Kannada film industry. His participation added a unique blend of inspiration and cinematic brilliance to the occasion. The dignitary lauded Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s unwavering dedication to celebrating and strengthening its bond with the local community, reflecting the true cultural spirit of the event.

The ’Namma Kannada Habba’ festival featured traditional art forms, music, dance, and cuisine, showcasing the state’s diversity. Further, local artisans, women entrepreneurs, performers, and cultural ambassadors were invited to participate, emphasizing the rich heritage of Karnataka.

A standout moment was a cross-cultural musical performance by employees, their families, and Japanese expatriates, symbolizing Toyota’s inclusive and collaborative work environment. The celebration also featured a captivating Kannada book exhibition and Karnataka’s cultural evolution, with artifacts and installations offering attendees an immersive journey into the state’s rich history and traditions.

A new initiative, the “Toyota Chaithanya Puraskara,” was introduced to recognize and motivate local community members who have made significant contributions to society. During the Kannada Habba, nine distinguished personalities from the Ramangara and Channapatana taluks were honored with this award. The recipients were:

  • Mr. Surendra N from Nijiyappanadoddi for integration of technology in agriculture
  • Mr. Nanjundaswamy from Aralukuppedoddi for promoting millets
  • Mr. R. Shashi Sibanahalli, honored for his contributions in dairy farming and multi-cropping
  • Mr. Jayakumar from Komanahalli, recognized for adopting integrated farming system
  • Mr. Chethan Kumar TC from Talavadi, recognized for his work in horticulture
  • Mr. Partha Sarathi from Kyasapura, for his contribution to Folk Art
  • Mr. Kempegowda A M from Belekere, for his work in Ranga Bhoomi
  • Mr. Renuka Prasad from Ijooru, for his dedication to Yakshagana
  • Mr. Chikkaveeraiah from Bannikuppe, for his efforts in Community Development, Education, and Child Welfare.

Present at the occasion, Mr. G. Senior leadership from Toyota Kirloskar Motor also joined the festivities, led by Mr. Masakazu Yoshimura, Chairman and Managing Director & CEO, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, and Regional CEO for India, Middle East, East Asia, and Oceania for Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan. He was accompanied by Mr. Swapnesh R Maru, Deputy Managing Director overseeing Corporate Planning, Finance, Administration, and Manufacturing, and Mr. Tadashi Asazuma, Deputy Managing Director responsible for Sales, Service, Used Cars, and the Lexus portfolio. Their active participation highlighted Toyota’s deep respect for the cultural fabric of Karnataka and the pivotal role of Kannada Habba in strengthening ties with the local community. Adding to the vibrancy of the celebrations, Mr. Masakazu Yoshimura delivered a heartfelt speech in Kannada, which won the admiration of everyone present and underscored Toyota’s genuine commitment to embracing and celebrating local traditions.
