Impact Of Covid-19 on Marginalised People

Based on the feedback from the various transgender groups who were facing dire livelihood crisis during the pandemic period, this Ministry has provided an immediate subsistence allowance of Rs 1500 per eligible Transgender person as an immediate support to meet their basic rGquirementS. During first lock-down period in year 2020, financial assistance of Rs. 1500 was provided through DBT to 5711 Transgender persons amounting to Rs. 85.66 lakh. Ration kits of worth Rs. 12.83 lakhs were provided to 1229 Transgender persons. A total amount of Rs. 98.50 lakh expenditure was incurred which benefitted 6940 Transgender persons across the country. Similarly, in the 2nd wave of the COVID-19 financial assistance of Rs. 1500 was provided to 5938 Transgender persons through DBT mode amounting to Rs. 89.24 lakhs. This information was given by The Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri. A. Narayanaswamy in the Rajya Sabha in a written reply today.
