Bills filed to end twice annual clock changes

There is once again a push in Springfield to make daylight saving time permanent in Illinois.

Two Illinois lawmakers, state Rep. Brad Halbrook and state Rep. Bob Morgan, have introduced legislation that would make daylight saving time the year-round standard time for the whole state. The measures aim to eliminate the two yearly clock changes in March and November.

Archer Daniels Midland announces layoffs

Archer Daniels Midland has announced hundreds of layoffs.

The company said in a statement that it would cut between 600 and 700 jobs globally this year as part of a plan to achieve up to $750 million in cost savings over the next three to five years. It is not known how many jobs will be affected at its Decatur facility.

The move, which follows job cuts at larger rival Cargill Inc., comes after a second straight year of profit declines as a rebound in grain inventories and mounting biofuel policy uncertainty weighed on prices.

Chicago man charged with stealing $1 million of shoes

A Chicago man is facing charges after approximately $1 million worth of suspected stolen shoes were discovered in a warehouse.

Erick Bautista, 26, was charged with one count of theft after a search warrant was executed Friday. Police recovered thousands of suspected stolen shoes, including Nike and New Balance brands.

As a result of the SAFE-T Act, he was ordered released from custody pending trial.
