Creates thousands of work opportunities for the locals in the State.

India, 23 September 2021: Amazon India, today, announced the launch of a new specialized fulfilment centre (FC) and the expansion of an existing FC in Gujarat. This significant investment in the State will help the company offer an additional 1.4 million cubic feet of storage space to over 1 lakh local sellers in Gujarat. Amazon India now has 2FCs in Gujarat with a total storage capacity of 2.5 million cubic feet which is equivalent to more than 20 Olympic sized swimming pools.

The expansion of Amazon India’s fulfilment network will also create thousands of work opportunities with competitive pay, leading to the development of local economy, in the State. Recruitment for thousands of these work opportunities is already underway and will entail a variety of roles in its operations network, including full time and part time options. The company’s expanded network will also enable Amazon India to cater to the growing demand from customers across the State, ahead of the festive season.

The expansion in Gujarat is a part of Amazon India’s plans to increase its fulfilment network and storage capacity by close to 40% across the country in 2021. The company continues to invest heavily in the State with deep presence in the region. Gujarat now has 2 fulfilment centres spread over 5 lakh square feet, 3 sort centres with more than a lakh square feet of sortation area, with an additional 110 Amazon owned and delivery service partner stations and over 800 of ‘I Have Space’ (IHS) stores for its last mile network.

Amazon India now has over 60 FCs in the country with more than 43 million cubic feet of storage capacity, offering one of the most advanced fulfilment networks. Sellers in India have been benefitting from Amazon’s expertise in fulfilment, reliable nationwide delivery, and customer service.

Buildings across Amazon India’s fulfillment network are designed with state-of-the art technology, efficient building systems to minimize energy usage and on-site and off-site solar panels to produce solar power. Most buildings are designed to be net water zero with multiple initiatives such as rainwater collection tanks, recharge wells to replenish water into aquifers and sewage treatment plants to name a few. As an inclusive place to work, fulfilment centres are also being designed to make them accessible to people with disabilities.
