UC mobile browser is now the world’s second most popular browser

UC mobile browser, which is owned by Alibaba Group is now the world’s second most popular browser, the company said on Wednesday.

According to StatCounter, an independent web traffic analytics service, the market share of the browser stands at 17.42 per cent. Chrome tops the list with close to 35 per cent market share.

StatCounter further states that the UC web browser has consistently grown in the overseas market. It owned more than half of browsing market share (54.42 per cent) in India in October 2015. The market share of the browser in the same month in Indonesia was 49.05 per cent.

“In addition to our leading position in home turf China, overseas growth has contributed significantly to UC Browser’s ascent to become the world’s No.2 mobile browser. We will continue to reach new users through unique localisation and personalisation efforts,” said YU Yongfu, President of Alibaba Mobile Business Group.

China, India and Indonesia are the three most populous emerging markets for the browser with a total population of 2.8 billion. Additionally, UCWeb also claims to be of the number one mobile browser in Pakistan with a 33.76 per cent market share in October 2015.

UC Browser’s USP is its signature cloud-enabled browsing technology that can compress data by up to 60 per cent and the ability to compress page to provide faster page loading.
