Street Haven’s Inaugural Walkathon: Uniting Toronto to Combat Homelessness

TORONTO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Street Haven is hosting its first ever Walking Home Walkathon on October 29, 2023, from 11:30AM to 2PM. The Walking Home Walkathon is aimed at raising awareness about the pressing issue of homelessness among vulnerable and at-risk women including African refugee claimants. As the colder weather approaches, it becomes increasingly challenging for those experiencing homelessness to find a safe haven from the cold. The event will also help to raise funds to support critical resources in Street Haven’s shelter, housing, addiction treatment and training supports for clients. The event will involve walking through the downtown east neighbourhoods including Cabbagetown, revitalized Regent Park and the Distillery District. Several important local representatives and supporters including Jessica Bell, MPP, University-Rosedale, Kristyn Wong-Tam, MPP Toronto-Centre, and Councillor Chris Moise, Toronto-Centre will be speaking to launch the event and participating in the walk. “This is an extremely important event to raise awareness on the impact that the cold will have on the homeless including the chronically homeless and the African refugee claimants who are arriving in Toronto and who will be unprepared for our cooler climate and weather”, says Dr. Siu Mee Cheng, executive director.
