Politicians looking to shift roles in West Virginia primary

(The Center Square) – West Virginia will hold its primary Tuesday, with a host of changes coming in this election process.

U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin will be replaced by one of a group of nine candidates led by Gov. Jim Justice, Alex Mooney and five others on the Republican side and three Democratic candidates.

Zane Lawhorn, Don Lindsay, Bryan McKinney and Janet McNulty are running as Republicans while Don Blankenship, Glenn Elliott and Zachary Shrewsbury are on the Democratic ballot.

Six Republican candidates are vying to be the next West Virginia governor, facing Democrat Steven Wendelin and Mountain Party candidate Chase Linko-Looper.

West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, Moore Capito, Kevin Christian, Chris Miller, Mitch Roberts and Mac Warner are the Republicans on the ballot.

John “JB” McCuskey and Mike Stuart are Republicans running to replace Morrisey as attorney general while Richie Robb and Teresa Toriseva are running as Democrats.

Doug Skaff, Ken Reed, Kris Warner and Brian Wood are Republicans running to be the next secretary of state against Democrat Thornton Cooper.

Two U.S. House races are also on the primary ballot with Republicans Derrick Evans and Carol Miller on the ballot along with Democrats Chris Bob Reed and Jim Umberger for House District 1.

The U.S. House District 2 race features Democrat Steven Wendelin and Republicans Riley Moore (currently treasurer), Dennis Cain, Joe Earley, Alexander Gaaserud and Chris “Mookie” Walker.
