Green Party’s Jill Stein looks to snag anti-genocide vote in Wisconsin

(The Center Square) – The Green Party’s Jill Stein says she’s not going to be a spoiler in November.

Stein, who has not yet been formally nominated by the Green Party, was a guest on UpFront on Milwaukee television over the weekend.

She said Democrats have abandoned their voters, and those voters are looking for somewhere else to go.

“Voters who are clamoring, 63% of voters who are clamoring for another choice. We are not spoilers,” Stein said.

Hillary Clinton blamed Stein for costing her Wisconsin in the 2016 election, but Stein said Democrats have only themselves to blame for losses in 2016 and beyond.

Stein said the war in Gaza will likely be a key issue for the Green Party this fall.

“In this election, you’re going to have four pr-genocide pro-war, pro-corporate candidates on the ballot. Basically splitting that pro-war vote. That is the Democrat, the Republican, RFK who’s also a very strong supporter of the war in the Middle East, and the No Labels Party,” Stein explained. “We’re seeing a lot of people say ‘This is it.’ We’re certainly seeing the Arab-American community, and likewise the African-American community that has also said ‘This system is not serving us, it’s time to look for something new.’”

The Wisconsin Elections Commission denied the Green Party a spot on the 2020 ballot in the state. Election managers said Green vice presidential candidate Angela Walker made some mistakes on her ballot paperwork. The Wisconsin Supreme Court later upheld the Elections Commission’s decision, saying the Green Party waited too long to ask the court to step in.

That shouldn’t happen this time.

The Elections Commission voted in early February to allow the Green Party on to the presidential ballot this year.

Stein said if the Greens make it on the ballot, she expects the party to get about 5% of the vote.

That could be enough to derail President Biden.

He won Wisconsin by less than 22,000 votes four years ago.
